Historie – tradition through generations

[Z] BERGER-ZOBEL draws on a long tradition and almost a century of experience, innovative strength and technical progress. As a mainstay of the BERGER GROUP, [Z] BERGER-ZOBEL can look back on a tradition as a specialist that goes back some 100 years.

The roots and the first beginnings of the company go back to Philipp Berger, who founded a paint trading company with later production in the Palatine chemical city of Ludwigshafen am Rhein in 1926 and who played an active part in the company until the early 1960s. In the 1950s, the founder Harry Zobel founded the specialist and later subsidiary [Z] ZOBEL in Worms.

The parquet sealing segment has been another core area within the BERGER GROUP since 1960. The relocation of the company from Ludwigshafen to nearby Grünstadt in 1980 created significantly more capacity, with space to allow for the company’s further successful expansion. The 24,000 m² area and spacious buildings would enable the systematic modernisation and expansion of the production facilities in the following decades.

The acquisition in 1988 of the parquet sealing specialist, Georg-Seidle GmbH, Freiberg, founded in 1945, and the merging of the product ranges heralded the creation of the leading European and worldwide parquet seal manufacturer under the affiliated brand, Berger-Seidle.

Ambitious development activities and worldwide marketing led to a variety of environmentally conscious coating, paint and oil systems and reliable product solutions in both segments at [Z] Zobel and in the other core areas.

A sales subsidiary was founded in Georgia, USA, in 1997 as part of the strategy of global development.

With the acquisition in 2010 of the adhesive manufacturer Ramge-Chemie GmbH, Dudenhofen, a company with a long tradition dating back to 1928 and the company’s incorporation into BERGER-SEIDLE in Grünstadt in 2013, the affiliated company BERGER-SEIDLE rounded off its comprehensive product range and now included the bonding, sealing and maintenance of parquet and wooden floors and other floor coverings segment as a premium brand. The seminar and technical centre was built in 2012, and provides the ideal and spacious premises to host the most technically demanding seminars – a perfect complement to the overall offering of the current BERGER GROUP and BERGER LACKE at the Grünstadt site.

2017 saw the complete takeover of the paint manufacturer Zobel-Chemie from Worms am Rhein, which is now also part of the BERGER-GROUP as an affiliate company to BERGER-LACKE. [Z] BERGER-ZOBEL is a premium supplier of state-of-the-art and environmentally friendly window, façade and door coatings under the [Z] Zobel brand.

All the affiliated companies and brands now occupy a top technical position in their segment and enjoy global success as a market leader in many countries.

[Z] BERGER-ZOBEL and the BERGER GROUP are still independent, medium-sized family businesses today, and therefore some of the last in the industry in this tradition.2019     Major investment in 2 new halls for production, warehousing, dispatch and the TechnologyCenter IndustrialCoatings.
